Two Chairs

So, on our wedding invitation, we had put two chairs next to a tree as our illustration and for the bridal shower card. Friends and family kept wondering what those two chairs mean to us. They would say "Do you guys really like chairs?" It really started when Dan, my husband, and I were in Chicago for our engagement shoot back in April. My awesome friend, Roya, the photographer, was asking me what would be the cake topper.

Now I wanted something creative and different, because if you don't know me, I'm all about being DIFFERENT..and crazy creative. So I thought of the movie, Up.


If you haven't seen that movie, tear jerker. There was a scene, in the very beginning, when the character Carl and Ellie, got married, and had this montage of them moving in together, growing old together....one scene from the montage, Carl and Ellie moved in their chairs in the living room. Now, as an interior designer, its all about having matching chairs. With Carl and Ellie, they decided to have their own distinct chairs, moving into their new home, kind of representing their personalities from their chairs. With Carl's boxy, short, comfortable chair and Ellie's patterned, feminine, classic chair, come together in this one room, relaxing and reading a book together, shows how two un-matching chairs work so well. I just love it. I really thought of Dan and I, how we are. I'm feminine and just a bold person, and Dan is more reserved, conservative, yet playful. So the chairs were kind of representing us.

I thought it was a different way of describing us, by using these chairs to represent us.

Roya, loved the idea so much, she called us a couple months ago, and asked if we do her logo with the idea of the two chairs. She was thinking about it constantly and just loved it. So, of course, Dan and I made a logo for her. We tried to make the chairs look like their in a picture frame.


Overall, it was a huge success. Now, our chairs are next to each other in our bedroom, where Dan and I do printmaking work together. He sits in his blue chair as I sit in my green lime chair.

Kelly LaPlante

My friend gave me a book called Ecologique, amazing designs by an eco-friendly designer Kelly LaPlante. She worked with a lot of celebrities home, such as Ally Sheedy, Michael Rapaport, and Tiffani Thiessen. Her designs is vintage classic.

Like most designers, the vintage look from the 50's to me, is still classic. I love the coffee table.


I really dig that she takes a vintage chair, and paints it to this bright red, nearby this turquoise fireplace and turquoise floor.

Nicole and Aaron Rustic Living Room

Nicole and Aaron are planning to live in Long Beach, which I'm super excited about. I told Nicole I would help her out with the decor of the living room. She sent me pictures of what they picked out and wanted my opinion.

So, the idea is that the living room will be a rustic, vintage atmosphere that screams comfort. I love the antlers, hehe. The sofa and chair is mocha brown, dark brown, which has been purchased at Plummers, but the coffee table is still up in the air. She was worried that the colors of the furniture is too dark and she doesn't want to give a dark room atmosphere to the space. Easy fix. I researched on dark room furniture, and basically there are ways to make the room feel more light, or not too dark.

First off, when having dark furniture, its nice to have a balance to them. If the sofa, chairs, and coffee table are dark, contrast with the side table, accessories and table lamps. Either glass, or white color accessories, or even a rug that is lighter. These furniture above shows with dark furniture, but contrasted by the floor, or even by accessories.

I don't know why, but I'm a huge fan of the more picture frames, the better. Especially for giving a more vintage eclectic look. The yellow lantern will fit right in with your walls of eclectic frames or collection of art.
Oh antlers, how do we love thee. Again, I love the playing of contrast colors. Dark brown with white antlers. Goregous.
Cabin fever with a modern twist.

Nice look when you enter a room.
Thought it had a nice comfortable atmosphere to this space.


So overall, a contrast of color would make it look open and airy.

A rug is a nice way to open the space more, depending of what flooring you would have in the apartment.


A white table lamp would look pretty awesome nearby your antler wall pieces.

A rustic side end table, or anything in a vintage rustic look would complete the look.

Fall fashion: Donna Karan

Who doesn't love Donna Karan. I really wish I could afford her clothes, but alas, I can always wait until her DKNY is on sale at Nordstrom rack. I love how she drapes her clothes. She just understands every woman's body. She can make any woman look goregous.

Eileen Gray

My love for Eileen Gray. When I was in interior design school, I had to build a furniture that is different and new. I researched of different types of furniture that were different, new, and out of the ordinary. When I researched different furniture designers, Eileen Gray was one of the few female designers that had made an impact of modern furniture. She had sleek and modern designs that are classic and beautiful.

She was featured in MOMA. This was one of her design, Bibendum chair.


Eileen decided to focus her career in architecture and began to construct a house called E1027. She started to also built furniture that were used for that house.

One of my favorite designs, E1027 table. This side table is made out of tubular steel, very light weight so it could be carried around the house. It also can adjust to different heights so it could be used in different parts of the room. I love this table. Learn more about E1027 house here.

FINALLY POSTING!

I know, I'm finally posting. I just want to show everybody the boutinierres that were made. It was crafty, personal to each groomsmen, and my friend Nicole, helped me put them together. GOOD TIMES!

Boutonnière

What's on my mind? A lot of wedding stuff! I also got that song, its the FINAL COUNTDOWN, da na na na....because its one more month, and I'll be married! Bam, I will be officially April Herchek!

So, I really haven't done much on flowers. I picked some for the reception because it comes part of the package at the place. But other than that, have not done my bouquet, or the bridesmaids bouquet...but I'm going to wing it. My mother hates when I say that. It makes her nervous.

So I've been looking at boutonnieres at etsy and saw some amazing stuff! I'm getting really inspired and determined to be crafty and make for the groomsmen a boutonniere that would last forever and it would be like a souvenir from our wedding.
